Summary

Acute trauma cases represent a critical segment of internal medicine, often requiring swift and precise interventions to ensure the best patient outcomes. As medicine continues to evolve, it is crucial to ensure that qualified doctors remain updated with the most recent practices, guidelines, and research pertaining to trauma care in internal medicine.

Learning objectives

For the teaching session on Trauma covering blunt and penetrating trauma, motor vehicle accidents, falls and fractures, as well as burns and inhalation injuries, the following are five competency-based learning objectives: Assessment and Intervention: By the end of this session, participants should be able to efficiently assess the severity of blunt and penetrating trauma and initiate appropriate first-line interventions. Safe Extrication: Following the module on motor vehicle accidents, attendees will be competent in safely extricating patients from vehicular entrapment while minimizing the risk of exacerbating injuries. Fracture Management: Participants should be able to promptly identify various types of fractures resulting from falls and competently immobilize them, ensuring optimal positioning and support to reduce pain and prevent further injury. Burns Classification and Initial Care: By the conclusion of this session, learners should be adept at classifying burns based on their depth and extent, and proficiently initiate immediate care for burn victims, including managing pain and preventing complications. Airway Management: After the section on inhalation injuries, participants will be competent in assessing the airway of patients with suspected inhalation injuries and effectively manage any emergent airway complications.
