Summary

Toxicological emergencies, stemming from accidental or intentional exposures to a wide range of substances, present a unique and urgent set of challenges in emergency medicine. Effective recognition, assessment, and management of these cases require a distinct set of skills and knowledge.

Learning objectives

Formulate and implement effective management plans tailored to specific toxicological emergencies, leveraging both antidotal and supportive care strategies. Collaborate efficiently with multidisciplinary teams, including pharmacologists, toxicologists, and intensivists, to ensure comprehensive care for patients with toxic exposures. Integrate appropriate lab investigations and interpret results to guide patient management, ensuring timely interventions in rapidly evolving toxicological scenarios. Advocate for and educate patients and their families on the prevention of toxic exposures and the importance of timely medical interventions in the event of suspected poisoning.
