Welcome to the Walter E. Dandy Neurosurgery Society Research & Portfolio Building Course.
This course has been designed for all students at any level and any course as long as they have as big a passion for Neurosurgery as we do here at the Society.
In this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your research skills including publications, posters, scholarships, CV building, and how to find the right mentors and apply for jobs.
This course will also provide you with the opportunity to share a final project by the end of the 7 weeks, introduced to you in our first session.

Week 2: ‘Looking into the Portfolio - CST Points’ by Dr Vasudev A Zaver, ST3 in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery
Week 3: ‘Finding Research and Research Mentorship’ by Duranka Perera, Surgical Trainee
Week 4: ‘How to present your work at conferences?’ by Dr Mohammad Mofatteh, PhD, MPH, MSc, PGCert, BCs
Week 5: ‘Basic Statistics and Critical Appraisal’ Part 1&2 by Sayan Biswas, 4th Year Medical Student
Week 6:
- Lecture 6.1 ‘ Learning To Teach Part I’ by Ines Correia, Intercalating MRes Medical Student
- Lecture 6.2 ‘Learning to Teach Part II’ by Dr Maryam Ali, GPST1
Week 7: ‘How to become a Neurosurgeon’ by Dr Shehab Samaha, Clinical Teaching Fellow
