Welcome to the Walter E. Dandy Neurosurgery Society Research & Portfolio Building Course.

Throughout the next 7 weeks, you will be exposed to several lectures and project tasks to improve your knowledge, awareness and skills around building the best portfolio for your Neurosurgical as well as your academic and research career. This course has been designed for all students at any level and any course as long as they have as big a passion for Neurosurgery as we do here at the Society. All our lectures will be released on a week-by-week basis for the next 7 weeks and you can find all the material under 'Catch Up Content'.

In this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your research skills including publications, posters, scholarships as well as CV building, including how to find the right mentors and apply for jobs. For each week, confirm if there are tasks to complete such as writing your first PICO question, drafting an abstract or sending a project idea - these will be interactive activities essential to your learning.

This course will also provide you with the opportunity to share a final project by the end of the 7 weeks, introduced to you in our first session.

Week 5: ‘Basic Statistics and Critical Appraisal’ Part 1&2 by Sayan Biswas, 4th Year Medical Student

Week 6:

• Lecture 6.1 ‘ Learning To Teach Part I’ by Ines Correia, Intercalating MRes Medical Student
• Lecture 6.2 ‘Learning to Teach Part II’ by Dr Maryam Ali, GPST1

Week 7: ‘How to become a Neurosurgeon’ by Dr Shehab Samaha, Clinical Teaching Fellow

Certificates (MedAll Weekly and Walter E Dandy Official Course Completion):

• For each week, you MUST complete the MedAll Feedback to receive the weekly certificate (available after each lecture).
• However, to receive the Course Offical Walter E Dandy Completion Certificate, you MUST complete all Pre- and Post-Lecture Forms (link in the description of the lecture). This will be the only way to prove your engagement with the course. Your form responses will be anonymous when reviewed by the team since you will create a code to identify you.
• At the end of the 7 weeks, a form will be available [HERE] for attendees to complete with their emails in order to receive the Official Walter E Dandy Course Completion Certificate.
