1. To understand and explain the pathophysiology and causes of urinary retention. 2. To develop the ability to identify symptoms, evaluate the severity of urinary retention, and determine a patient's immediate needs. 3. To gain knowledge on consent, indications, and contraindications of catheterisation. 4. To learn and implement how to perform an acute management of urinary retention, including catheterisation techniques. 5. To grasp the significance of appropriate investigations, evaluation of results and recognise when to consult or refer to a urologist for further specialist management.
