Session is 1 hour long with time at the end for Q&A This teaching session provides foundation year doctors with an overview of the assessment and management of acute surgical upper GI disorders. Through discussion, case studies and worked examples, the session will provide attendees with the knowledge and skills to confidently manage patients with upper gastrointestinal disorders.

Learning objectives

1. To explain the role of a FY doctor in the assessment and management of acute surgical upper GI disorders. 2. To identify the various types of upper GI disorders and their causes. 3. To describe the most effective methods of diagnosing and assessing each upper GI disorder. 4. To explain the various treatment protocols which may be used to manage different types of upper GI disorders. 5. To identify and discuss potential complications related to each type of upper GI disorder and how to manage them.
