Doctor Melvin M. Maclin, II is a native of Chicago, Illinois in the United States. He received his undergraduate degree with highest honors from Howard University in Washington, D.C. where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated top in his class in medical school from Howard University College of Medicine, and was likewise elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the National Medical Honor Society. He then fully completed his training in general surgery at Howard University Hospital with two years of research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland.
He finished his surgical training at Washington University School of Medicine's Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery and during his tenure he was twice named “Teacher of the Year.” In private group practice in St. Louis, he has been recognized as one of St. Louis’ prestigious Top Doctors in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery since 2008. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Surgery at St. Louis University, and Head of the Plastic Surgery Division at SSM DePaul Hospital in St. Louis.
In addition to his surgical expertise, Dr. Maclin is the Father of two sons, a former international competitor as a Second degree black-belt in Taekwondo and is currently training in Aikido with a rank of 2nd Kyu. He is also an Association of Ringside Physicians certified Ringside Physician and works with the UFC, Bellator and many local promotions for MMA, kickboxing, and boxing.
