Registrars, LEDS and SAS should be able to have a good understanding of the structure of the viva exam and have practiced delivering answers in this format with experienced faculty.

Attendees should be able to accurately identify and diagnose management strategies for: upper GI topics such as oesophageal perforations, acute pancreatitis, bile duct injuries, and small bowel tumours; strategies for traumatic principles, thorax trauma, vascular trauma, and aneurysms; colorectal pathologies, management strategies and up to date evidence; Emergency general surgery management strategies for hernias, bleeding, transplant emergencies and the open abdomen
