This webinar will explore what metacognition is and its value to the surgeon. Various management strategies are designed to improve clinical outcomes. Few, however, have attempted to explain how the surgeon uses knowledge and thinking to make decisions, how we can modify the ways we think about our decisions and how by doing this, there might be benefits for both patient and surgeon. Understanding how we solve surgical problems and make subsequent decisions is not something that most surgeons consider in detail. The fact that such an understanding can help us improve these processes and make us better surgeons has not been widely appreciated. This webinar will explain how this thinking occurs and how it can be modified.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, attendees should have an understanding of the practical aspects of surgical decision making and approaches to improve it by ‘intra-human’ factors.
