Description

Some important and sometimes controversial topics with regards to the management of Head and Neck cancer by Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery will be discussed in the TORS webinar series over the next few months. We will kick off with the controversial topic of what constitutes an adequate surgical margin. We will hear the perspective of a UK TORS surgeon and a Pathology Consultant.

Aims

To analyse the impact of the surgical margin on patient outcome in TORS.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, attendees should be able to:

- Define the surgical margin in TORS

- Understand how the pathologist handles the TORS specimen

- Provide an evidence based review of the impact of the surgical margin on the outcome in TORS.

Panellists

Our panellists include:

  • Mrs Laura Warner - Mrs Laura Warner is an Consultant ENT Surgeon specialising in Head and Neck (H&N) cancer. Her practice includes transoral robotic surgery. Laura graduated from Sheffield Medical School in 2008 and following completion of specialty training in the North West, undertook a Training Interface Group fellowship in Newcastle upon Tyne, where she was appointed as Consultant in 2018. She is the current H&N cancer MDT lead.
  • Dr Max Robinson- Dr Max Robinson is an academic pathologist at Newcastle University providing specialist H&N pathology services for Newcastle and Sunderland NHS Trusts. Max’s research is focused on developing novel biomarkers for early deteton of oral cancer and examining the role of HPV in oropharyngeal SCC. He is the pathology lead for several UK clinical trials including PATHOS and MOSES. He has published extensively.
  • Miss Nashreen Oozeer- Miss Nashreen Oozeer is a H&N consultant at Sunderland Royal Hospital. She is a member of the RCSEd Otolaryngology Surgical Specialty Board and the H&N representative on the Robotic Taskforce. She is faculty on a number of national courses including the RCSEd Essentials in Robotics. She is the Patient Information lead for ENTUK and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training.
