Join us for the fourth talk of the SUNS Introduction to Clinical Neuroscience Research Series with Professor Pankaj Sharma: Using a Multi-omics Approach to Understand Cerebrovascular Disease
Professor Pankaj Sharma is a distinguished neurologist with extensive qualifications and experience in cerebrovascular disease. He obtained his MBBS in London, followed by a PhD from the University of Cambridge and an MD from the University of London. He also holds a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). Professor Sharma has previously been a British Heart Foundation (BHF) Clinician Scientist at Cambridge and a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard Medical School, USA.
Currently, Professor Sharma serves as a Consultant Neurologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and is the Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Research. In addition to his clinical role, he holds the Chair of Neurology at Royal Holloway, University of London. He has also led the Imperial College Cerebrovascular Research Unit at Imperial College London, which is internationally recognised for its contributions to cerebrovascular research.
Professor Sharma has published numerous original research papers, contributed chapters to several books, and edited two books. His expertise in brain and stroke matters has made him a sought-after commentator for radio and television.
In this talk, Professor Pankaj Sharma will delve into his pioneering research on cerebrovascular diseases, focusing on how genetics, genomics, and proteomics are transforming our understanding of stroke. He will explore three key areas: the prediction, diagnosis, and treatment of stroke at the molecular level. Professor Sharma will also discuss his particular interest in the genetics of stroke within ethnic minority populations, with a special emphasis on South Asian and Middle Eastern groups. This talk will provide insights into cutting-edge approaches and future directions in stroke research.
