Description

Welcome to the second talk of our Student to Surgeon series. If you want to learn a little more about training in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, this is for you!

For our third and final talk of the series, our speaker Dr Conor Hughes will be sharing on the various training pathways available for trauma and orthopaedic surgery.

Summary

Are you a medical student or junior doctor interested in orthopaedics? If so, we have something for you!

With all the portfolio requirements, exams, and potential training pathways, specialty training applications can be confusing and stressful. Don't fret, because we're here to help!

Join us along with Dr Conor Hughes, Trauma and Orthopaedics Clinical Development Fellow at NHS Fife, as we walk you through specialty applications for orthopaedic surgery, portfolio building, and what it's like to work in Trauma & Orthopaedics!

Learning objectives

  1. By the end of the session, learners should be able to identify the key stages in the training pathway from medical student to fully qualified trauma and orthopaedic surgeon.

  2. Learners should develop an understanding of the skills and knowledge required at each stage of the training pathway, and how these are developed and assessed.

  3. Participants should be able to understand the differences between various training pathways, including the pros and cons of each approach.

  4. Learners should understand the role and importance of continual professional development (CPD) and lifelong learning in the career of a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon.

  5. By the end of the session, participants should have the information they need to make informed decisions about their own career development and training path in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.
