Description

This teaching series will cover the role of nutritional interventions in sports-related goals, including muscle hypertrophy, sports performance, healthy weight loss, preventing muscle atrophy, preventing & treating injuries to the brain and bones, and avoiding relative energy deficiency syndrome (RED-S).

Tutorial 5/6

This online session will address nutritional strategies for preventing and treating brain-related injuries. As contact sports are a big risk factor for sub-concussive and concussive brain trauma, this tutorial will discuss some of the major nutrients that may provide a protective benefit. A critical analysis of a scientific study will also be covered.

Learning objectives

  1. To understand the basic pathophysiology of mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBIs)

  2. To be able to apply nutritional supplementation strategies to prevent and/or treat mTBIs

  3. To be able to critically analyse a scientific paper
