A typical orthopaedic referral, the source of a swollen joint is a broad and important topic to understand. Aimed at medical students and foundation trainees, this session aims to demonstrate how a simple, pragmatic approach to a swollen joint can help distinguish the common causes, tailoring manageent to best help treat your patient.

This SOS Session offers a practical approach to helping learn how to diagnose and manage an acutely swollen joint. It provides an overview of common causes, what investigations to consider, and simple early steps in management, giving medical students and foundation trainees the knowledge they need to effectively diagnose and treat patients presenting with this important presentation.
