He has just published a book on History's Eminent Surgeons and defines what is means to be a surgeon. Surgeons need to acknowledge their vulnerabilities and demonstrate humility

Summary

This teaching session is for medical professionals looking to optimize their practice. It will focus on audit and complications, teaching strategies to assess and manage them. Attendees will review techniques to efficiently detect potential medical errors, identify and implement improvement initiatives that limit risk, and learn about how to apply best practice models to drive quality while avoiding costly medical complications. The session will explore what it means to be a surgeon and the imperative to demonstrate your practice. We will look at the principles of audit and explain how a surgeon should collect their data. We will also examine the impact of complications on the surgeon and and the patient. How do you deal with these situations?

Learning objectives

  1. Participants will be able to recognize the importance of audit to identify patterns and determine preventative measures.

  2. Participants will be able to comprehend different methods of effectively gathering audit data.

  3. Participants will understand the impact of complications and recognise the need to learn and build resilience.

  4. Participants will learn how to communicate complication risk and acknowledge complications.

  5. Participants will be able to create and implement strategies to reduce risks in relation to patient care.
