Dive into the intricate aspects of human anatomy with SCRUBS Anatomy Series: Session 6. This comprehensive session focuses on the anatomy of the Oral and Nasal Cavity, Pharynx, Larynx and Thyroid.
Learning objectives
1. Demonstrate the surface anatomy of the neck, larynx and thyroid.
2. Identify the key anatomical features of the oral cavity, including teeth.
3. Identify the opening of the major salivary glands, the hard and soft palates, structures forming the entrance of the oropharynx, the openings of the paranasal air sinuses and the nasolacrimal duct.
4. Identify on X-rays, CT and MRI scans and on a coronal section of the head:
- The nasal septum, conchae, meati and the paranasal air sinuses
- The pharynx and its relations
- The retropharyngeal space
- Fascial layers of the neck
5. Identify the constrictor muscles of the pharynx and examine their relationship to the carotid sheath and cranial nerves IX,X,XI,XII.
6. Demonstrate the cartilages and compartments of the larynx and laryngeal nerves.
7. Describe the movement of the vocal folds and list the muscles responsible for their innervation.
8. Revise the endocrine layer of the cervical viscera : location and anatomy of the thyroid gland and its vascular supply.
