Learning outcomes for the session:
- Demonstrate the regions and quadrants into which the anterior abdominal wall is divided and describe the surface projections of the abdominal viscera.
- Demonstrate by the use of prosections the anatomy of the abdominal wall and list the functions of the abdominal wall muscles.
- Demonstrate the paths of direct and indirect inguinal hernias.
- Identify the abdominal aorta and its branches: coeliac trunk ( and its three branches), superior mesenteric artery and inferior mesenteric artery.
- Describe the layout of the lumbar plexus.
