Scalpel is hosting its 16th Annual Conference with the theme of 'Surgery Transformed.' This year, we aim to explore how surgery can transform the lives of patients and how surgery itself has been transformed over the years due to recent advancements in surgical research and innovation.
Our key note speakers will address:
1. Surgery Transformed: Burns and Reconstructive Surgery, hosted by Mr James Bedford
2. Robotics in Thoracic Surgery, hosted by Dr Ahmed Habib
3. Surviving in Scrubs As a Woman of Colour, Ms Kohila Vani Sigamoney
Student run projects will be facilitated, as we will have oral presentations in the afternoon, judged by a panel of consultant surgeons. Best talk will receive a prize. Poster submissions is still open - get the opportunity to present a poster at a ratified international conference!
This year we are really excited to offer hands-on, wet laboratory workshops (performed on pig material) run by consultant surgeons, giving unique expertise and experience to medical students:
- Basic surgical skills (calling all Novices!) – learn suturing & knot tying – basic surgical skills
- Hands on Virtual Reality in Surgery (Neurosurgery)
- When bowel meets bowel: bowel anastomosis
- Small but mighty: Microsurgery
