The Student Surgical Society of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) holds an annual Intercollegiate Case Competition around the beginning of every February, during their Charter Week. Every medical school in Ireland is represented at this competition by the winner of their respective surgical case competition heats. The overall winner will receive the Professor David Boucher Hayes Medal.

This event is the QUB Heat for the Surgical Case Competition. Those who have submitted will present their surgical case in the form of a powerpoint presentation, covering the following aspects:

  • History
  • Physical examination
  • Differential diagnosis
  • Management
  • Investigations
  • Treatment
  • Perioperative notes
  • Follow-up

The format of the heat is the following:

  • Present for 7 minutes
  • Questions for 3-5 minutes
