Summary

Join our session how best to take a psychiatric history and acing your psych placement. This revision session will help you prepare for OSCEs and the psychiatry part of finals exams. We will provide a comprehensive guide on taking a psych history, conducting a mental state examination, and strategically approaching a psych ACC. The session will also include tips from those who have excelled in their placements and advice on producing effective Case Based Discussions. This class is especially beneficial for 5th year students or below, as it covers every detail for a successful psych placement.

Learning objectives

  1. To understand and apply the principles of taking a psychiatric history, including the relevant terminology and the key elements such as presenting complaint, past history, and personal details.
  2. To gain knowledge and expertise in conducting a Mental State Examination, which includes analyzing appearance, behavior, speech, mood, thought processes, perceptual abilities, cognition, and insight.
  3. To learn about the requirements of a psychiatric placement, where it is likely to take place, and the challenges it might present.
  4. To gain insights and practical tips on how to excel in a psychiatric placement, specifically on how to approach ACC's and provide effective Case Based Discussions.
