Learn how to identify different types of fractures and understand key radiological features essential for diagnosis. Perfect for students and professionals looking to enhance their imaging interpretation skills!

Summary

This is the second of our three sessions on MSK radiology. We’re thrilled to partner with University of Birmingham Radiology Society, Edinburgh University Radiology Society and St George's Radiology Society to deliver focused radiology teaching for students.

Learning objectives

  1. By the end of the session, participants will be able to accurately identify and describe different types of fractures visible on X-rays, including simple, compound, comminuted, and pathologic fractures.

  2. Participants will gain an understanding of the radiological features that are essential for diagnosing fractures, such as areas of cortical disruption or periosteal reaction.

  3. Attendees will improve their competency in interpreting fracture X-rays by understanding the significance of associated findings such as soft tissue swelling, fat pad sign, and joint effusion.

  4. Participants will develop their skills of systematic evaluation of fracture X-rays, including assessment of alignment, bone quality, cartilage spaces, associated soft tissues, and search for additional injuries.

  5. By the end of the session, participants will be familiar with the process of reporting a fracture on an X-ray, including describing the location, configuration, and extent of the fracture, as well as any associated complications.
