Description

About the MedAll Primary Care CPD Programme

We are passionate about making medical education free and more accessible. In light of the increasing financial pressures faced by healthcare professionals, including the rising cost of living and strained practice finances, we felt compelled to do something. It's why we have introduced a no-cost CPD programme for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals working in primary care. We recognise that the high expense of traditional CPD update courses is a significant barrier, and by collaborating as an entire primary care community we hope we can offer a practical, accessible alternative.

About our speaker: Dr Vikram Talaulikar MD, FRCOG, PhD

Dr. Talaulikar is an Honorary Associate Professor in Women's Health at University College London. As a British Menopause Society Menopause Specialist, Dr. Talaulikar brings a wealth of expertise in menopause care. He is recognized as a Principal Trainer for the Menopause Special Skills Module at the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He is a Trainer for the BMS Principles and Practice of Menopause Care course.

Further teaching from Dr Talaulikar can be found here

Note: this event is not formally accredited by an external organisation for CPD points. The current guidance for GP CPD is that it is appropriate that the credits you self-allocate should equal however many hours you spent on learning activities, as long as they are demonstrated by a reflective note on lessons learned and any changes made or planned (if applicable).

Summary

This Primary Care Updates course is designed to help GPs to stay up-to-date with the latest guidelines and developments in Menopause, focusing on testosterone's role in menopause management

Learning objectives

Learning outcomes: Identify and Understand the Role of Testosterone in Menopause: GPs will be able to describe the physiological effects of testosterone in the female body and its role during the menopausal transition, including its impact on sexual function, mood, bone density, and muscle strength.

Evaluate and Apply Testosterone Therapy Guidelines: Participants will learn how to evaluate when testosterone therapy is appropriate for menopausal patients, incorporating current clinical guidelines, best practice recommendations, and considering individual patient needs and health profiles.

Manage and Monitor Testosterone Therapy in Menopausal Women: GPs will acquire skills to initiate, manage, and monitor testosterone therapy in menopausal women, including dosing strategies, potential side effects, and long-term management plans to ensure patient safety and efficacy of treatment.

Address Patient Concerns and Misconceptions: The course will equip GPs with the ability to effectively communicate with patients about the benefits and risks of testosterone therapy in menopause management, addressing common concerns and misconceptions, and ensuring patients make informed decisions about their care.

These objectives are aimed at enhancing the competence and confidence of GPs in integrating testosterone therapy into menopause management, providing comprehensive care, and improving patient outcomes.
