We’re back for a brilliant talk by Dr Jamie Mawhinney from the Pulvertaft Hand Centre who will be speaking about plastic surgery training pathways and academia.

Jamie attended state school in Shropshire before studying medicine at Balliol College, University of Oxford. He completed an intercalated BA (Hons) degree in Medical Sciences in 2015 and graduated with distinction in 2018.

He completed the Academic Foundation Programme at Guys’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust with a four-month research project in the Department of Vascular Surgery under Professor Bijan Modarai. His Core Surgical Training (plastic surgery themed) took place in the Wessex region at Salisbury District Hospital and the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.

Jamie has a broad experience in both laboratory-based and clinical research. He is the author of 15 Pubmed-indexed articles and has presented his research internationally. Jamie is currently the clinical research fellow in hand surgery at the prestigious Pulvertaft Hand Centre. His research interests include trauma and large research studies and he is presently the local NIHR Associate PI for the FIRST Study.
