Description & schedule

Summary

The NICON24 Conference & Exhibition, titled 'Grasping the Nettle,' serves as a platform for HSC leaders and partners to coordinate and envision ways to enhance health and care outcomes within Northern Ireland. This year the conference hopes to tackle the immense pressures within our healthcare system, by encouraging creative and collaborative approaches. At this conference, key topics to be discussed include health inequalities and prevention, fostering openness among staff, invigorating system leadership, emerging health care partnerships, hurdles and prospects within health care innovation, and productivity within service design. Over the two days, you will hear from over 600 healthcare leaders, be informed on the latest news from local leaders, learn from international experiences, and have the opportunity to discuss and share insights on how to drive transformation and improve health outcomes for our population.

Learning objectives

Five learning objectives for the medical audience for this conference:

  1. Identify strategies for creating clinical and public consensus to progress service reconfiguration plans (with reference to the ‘reboot’ of Bengoa).
  2. Recognise how to build different approaches to delivering better outcomes for the population practically and aspirationally.
  3. Understand the significance and interconnectivity of various programmes, strategies, and approaches that can act as drivers of health and social care transformation (such as 'systems thinking' and 'collective leadership').
  4. Analyse the Health Minister’s vision and the NI Executive’s plans for future of NI’s integrated health and social care system at a time when the system is under immense pressure
  5. Understand how to apply learning from other sources to the Northern Ireland context - and vice versa for our international audience!
  • An extra objective for the overachievers: Analyse how to nurture and empower so-called ‘positive deviants’ in your organisation to foster innovation and embrace the positive impact that it can have on the wider health and care landscape
