Description

This course is a follow-up to the Understanding NHS Health Checks full study day, a reminder of the NHS Health Check Competency Framework and then focuses on CVD Risk, GPPAQ, Audit C, and Dementia prevention and awareness.

Learning Outcomes:

  • State why NHS Health Checks are important.
  • Know the NHS Health Check filters
  • State how the risk of cardiovascular disease and opportunities for reducing this risk may best be communicated.
  • Appreciate the different risk communication strategies
  • Appreciate the complexity of GPPAQ and Audit C
  • Know what is needed for Dementia prevention and awareness within a health check

The course is open to anyone who is involved in the delivery of NHS Health Checks and attendees should have attended training previously before attending the refresher, which is recommended yearly.

Learning objectives

  1. Understand the Framework: Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the NHS Health Check framework, including its overall goals, procedures, and benefits to individuals in Wiltshire.

  2. Patient Communication: Participants will enhance their skill in explaining the need, process, and benefits of the NHS Health Check to patients to ensure they understand the importance of their participation.

  3. Risk Evaluations: Participants will become proficient in conducting risk assessments related to heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, diabetes, and dementia to identify potential risk factors and develop appropriate preventive measures.

  4. Knowledge Update: Participants will update their knowledge of the latest evidence, guidelines, and tools related to NHS Health Check, in order to provide the best possible care and advice to patients.

  5. Referrals and Follow-ups: Participants will learn effective strategies for referring patients to appropriate interventions following an NHS Health Check, along with the best practices for scheduling and managing follow-up appointments to monitor health progress or changes.
