Description

Welcome to our national teaching series, the BrainLeeds Academy! This series will provide participating medical students essential insights into neurology and neurosurgery, as well as clinical practice and research. Our aims are to:

  1. Focus on core neurological conditions
  2. Cover the basics of neuroanatomy, right up to complicated pathways
  3. Difficult patient presentations and findings
  4. Information and guidance on neurological and neurosurgical specialties

Part 1: Neuroanatomy will be delivered by Lauren Heywood, a Teaching Fellow in Anatomy from the University of Leeds. This is the first session of Part 1, which explores the gross anatomy.

Learning objectives

  1. To understand the basic structure and functions of different parts of the brain and how they relate to gross anatomy.
  2. To learn about the core neurological conditions and their manifestations and implications in a clinical scenario.
  3. To understand and interpret various neurological pathways and their importance in neural communication, disease progression, and treatment planning.
  4. To be able to articulate and respond effectively to complex patient presentations and findings pertaining to neurological disorders.
  5. To gain insight into neurological and neurosurgical specialties and to develop an interest in these fields through understanding of their practical and research aspects.
