Learning objectives

Aim: The aim of the course is to enable dental nurses in specialist orthodontic practices to become competent in Orthodontic Dental Nursing to provide safe and effective orthodontic treatment for patients. Objectives: By the end of the course you will be able to: -Outline the role of an effective orthodontic dental nurse and how to work within a multi-disciplinary team -Demonstrate competence in assisting with patients undergoing orthodontic treatment by completion of a portfolio -Describe the aims, limitations, risks and benefits of orthodontic treatment -Describe orthodontic anatomical structure -Deliver oral health education and care of orthodontic appliances -Demonstrate casting of study models -Take clinical photographs -Carry out cephalometric tracing, measurement and digitisation -Indicate relevant health and safety requirements and legislation -Awareness of medico legal matters and clinical governance -Indicate methods of stock control, maintenance and storage of materials and equipment -Access and use appropriately current information and guidelines from relevant bodies to support the patient during orthodontic dentistry
