Who: Mr Vinci Naruka (ST5 Cardiothoracic Surgical Trainee)
Mr Vinci Naruka graduated from the University of Cambridge and attained the extremely competitive run-through National Training Number in Cardiothoracic Surgery in London, on his first attempt straight after FY2.
He is currently an ST5 Cardiothoracic Surgery Registrar at the Harefield Hospital. He holds the Residents Committee position for the European Association for Cardio-thoracic Surgery (EACTS) where he hopes to widen education in Cardiothoracic Surgery across the Continent. He has also founded the Pre-Trainee Web series as part of EACTS and is involved in the EACTS Education Committee.
He is also the Trainee Representative for Cardiothoracic Surgery in London.
Mr Naruka has led a multi-centre collaborative project in thoracic surgery and recruited over 100 students in the UK to collect data across 17 units. He has an array of publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and several international presentations.
He is heavily involved in national education and mentoring medical students and junior doctors towards a career in surgery.
He has given multiple talks nationally on tips on how to succeed in surgical application and develop a competitive CV for the last 5 years, years before applying for surgery.
He says ”The preparation starts years before when you are a medical student. If I can do it, so can you!”
His talks have previously been found extremely useful and have guided many to get ahead.
