Scalpel are excited to announce to present Manchester's first ever student-led general trauma conference! As part of Scalpel's Conference Season, we are bringing you TWO conferences, including our annual conference day!
In collaboration with Friends of David Nott Foundation, Friends of MSF, Plastics and T&O societies, we are delivering a full day of speakers and hands-on workshops covering the full scope of Trauma management, within the NHS and around the world.
Major trauma is complex, both in its medical management and in ensuring a safe environment pre-hospital. Given the harrowing loss of life that we are experiencing daily around the world, it is clear that the necessity for trauma management is sadly ever present. Despite this, trauma management isn't a common experience during placement and the first time that you might encounter an acute trauma case may well be as a doctor. Additionally, there is little exposure to the careers of trauma surgeons, trauma team leads, or humanitarian and military surgeons.
This years theme is Trauma, Home & Away. Our speakers will cover the role of trauma doctors and surgeons in the management of a trauma patient, from pre-hospital triage in a major incident, to the full multi-disciplinary team that will receive the patient in A+E.
We'll then look abroad to humanitarian surgery and the management of patients in warzones and environments with reduced resources. You'll be exposed to the role of a humanitarian surgeon, and the challenges that they face when providing care.
In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to get hands-on in a mix of trauma triage, emergency management and trauma surgical skills workshops. These will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis by preference form closer to the conference date.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
