We will be revisiting some basic pathophysiology, when and how to test for HIV, and how it is managed. We will also discuss how this life-long but manageable chronic condition can affect your patients long-term, and how we can all work together to break down the stigma against HIV.

Learning objectives

  1. To understand the basic pathophysiology and clinical presentations of HIV in the LGBTQ population.
  2. To become familiar with diagnostic techniques and criteria for HIV, with a focus on early detection and frequent testing especially within the LGBTQ community.
  3. To learn about the management and treatment strategies for HIV patients, including the utilization of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
  4. To grasp the social implications and stigma associated with HIV, particularly within the LGBTQ community, and how this can impact patient care and outcomes.
  5. To build skills and confidence in creating a supportive, nonjudgmental healthcare environment for LGBTQ patients with HIV, promoting adherence to treatment and improving patient well-being.
