We are pleased to announce the launch of our inaugural Preclinical Cardiology Teaching Series. This online tutorial provides an introduction to cardiology, emphasising the fundamental principles of the cardiovascular system. Participants will explore key topics that integrate basic anatomy, physiology, and clinical applications, with a strong focus on interactive learning.
When: Tuesday 7th Jan 2025
Where: MedAll
Who: British Indian Medical Organisation (BIMO)
Topics Covered:
- Basic anatomy and physiology of the heart, including chambers, valves, and blood flow.
- The cardiac cycle: systole and diastole, heart sounds, and murmurs.
- Electrical conduction system: cardiac action potentials, pacemaker cells, and myocytes.
- Analysis of Wigger’s diagrams and pressure-volume loops.
- Introduction to ECG: understanding normal versus abnormal readings.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the fundamental structure and function of the heart.
- Gain insights into normal and abnormal heart sounds and their clinical significance.
- Analyse cardiac pressure-volume relationships and their physiological importance.
- Develop the ability to interpret basic ECG findings and their relevance to cardiac health.
