The International Undergraduate & Foundation Surgical Conference is the highlight of the Surgical Society calendar. Being the largest student-led conference in the UK, it allows medical students and foundation doctors the opportunity to explore a career in surgery, by participating in various workshops and listening to esteemed international speakers. This year the theme is ‘Surgery against all odds’. We aim to explore the trials and tribulations of surgeons across the world, namely how they adapt and overcome to perform complex procedures despite their limited resources. Furthermore, we will look at the developing world of virtual surgery by investigating its current and future value to this field. A key motif of this iNUGSC 2023 is on expanding diversity within surgery, by shining light on a wide range of specialities, research and in particular the surgeons themselves. Our speakers will demonstrate how the face of surgery is evolving to be increasingly universal, and how we can learn from surgeons from all corners of the world.
