Description & schedule

Summary

As we approach 2030, the global health community faces a crucial milestone in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to Child Health. Join us at the 2024 Winter Meeting for an engaging discussion on the progress, challenges, and innovations in global child health as we count down to this pivotal year. This year's theme, Countdown to 2030: Global Child Health and Sustainable Development Goals, will bring together leading experts, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the strategies needed to reduce child mortality, improve maternal and newborn health, and achieve equitable healthcare worldwide. We will also be considering how issues like climate change, migrant and refugee health, hunger & poverty, gender inequality, education, teenage pregnancy, and infectious diseases/NTDs are affecting the well-being of children worldwide. Together, let us work towards ensuring that no child is left behind on the road to 2030.

Learning objectives

1. Assess the current progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to child health. 2. Explore the major global and regional challenges, including poverty, hunger, and conflict, that hinder the achievement of equitable healthcare for children and how these barriers can be overcome. 3. Analyse the impact of intersecting factors such as climate change, gender inequality, migrant and refugee health, and education on the SDGs, and how addressing these factors holistically can improve child health outcomes. 4. Identify innovative strategies and solutions, including advancements in public health policy community-driven initiatives, to accelerate progress toward SDG targets for child health. 5. Engage in forward-thinking discussions on the future direction of global child health initiatives, focusing on addressing gaps in current policies and creating actionable recommendations. 6. Foster an understanding of how cross-sector collaboration between governments, NGOs, healthcare systems, and local communities is essential in tackling issues like teenage pregnancy, infectious diseases, and non-communicable diseases.
