BBASS welcome their new Sensei Assoc Prof Dr Sujaya Singh, cornea consultant and lecturer and Head of UMERC (University Malaya Eye Research Centre), Universiti Malaya.
She commenced as a medical officer & specialist in KKM hospitals, refining skills & completed postgraduate in Ophthalmology from University Malaya in 2011. Proceeded with cornea fellowships at L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India and the Malaysian Corneal Fellowship programme. Certified as a corneal surgeon in 2015 and joined University Malaya in 2016, contributing to enhancing the corneal services, increasing outpatient numbers and transplants.
Dr Singh stablished a contact lens clinic for complex corneal cases and initiated the corneal fellowship programme in University Malaya and trained a fellow for last 2 years. Also, actively involved in teaching and coordinating the UMMP programme for Ophthalmology in University Malaya. Have mentored undergraduate and postgraduate students both clinically and surgically. Have organized workshops for cornea procurement and cornea suturing (basic skills) for postgraduate students.
As head of UMERC (University Malaya Eye Research Centre) secured research grants, she has participated in clinical trials and authored peer-reviewed articles and is committed to social responsibility activities to contribute to the society such as eye screening programmes, talk shows on social media (Bernama Radio and TV3) regarding contact lens awareness for general public.
