Summary and learning objectives

General surgeons are often confronted with abdominal pain or other emergencies caused by gynaecological conditions. This webinar will take us through common presentations of gynaecological emergencies and their basic management, investigation, and differentiation.

The second part of this webinar will focus on emergency presentations of gynaecological cancers (e.g. the newly diagnosed ovarian cancer presenting with obstruction) and their best management.

This webinar allows the unique opportunity to learn from specialists in our MDT and allow you to anticipate and aid in the management of this group. Especially well suited for higher specialty trainees

Learning objectives:

  • differentiating symptoms and investigations of common gynaecological emergencies
  • interpretation and follow-up of common investigations/imaging findings (e.g. ovarian cysts)
  • management and treatment of bowelobstructions caused by gynaecological malignancies

  • Understand the common gynaecological emergencies that might present to the general surgeon and how to effectively differentiate between them based on symptoms and investigation findings
  • Gain knowledge in the appropriate interpretation of common gynaecological investigations and imaging findings, especially in the context of emergency presentations
  • Develop skills in managing common gynaecological emergencies including initial diagnosis, basic treatment and when to refer the patient for specialist care
  • Comprehend the emergency presentations of gynaecological cancers including their diagnosis, management and treatment options
  • Learn how to manage and treat bowel obstructions caused by gynaecological malignancies.
