Learning objectives
- To understand and identify key health issues that commonly affect older adults such as immobility, instability, incontinence, intellectual impairment, and iatrogenic diseases.
- To gain proficiency in conducting geriatric patient interviews and recording high yield histories with an emphasis on special considerations for this population.
- To gain knowledge on geriatric-specific topics that are important for success in UKMLA exams, including polypharmacy, dementia, depression, falls in the elderly, osteoporosis, etc.
- To develop strategies for handling OSCEs/CCAs involving geriatric patients, practicing skills such as communication with patients with sensory deficits, respect for autonomy and shared decision-making.
