Summary

Oesophageal cancer is among the top most common and deadliest cancers globally. Despite advancements in diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities, patient outcomes remain suboptimal. For physicians, it is crucial to stay updated and effectively implement these advancements in clinical practice. This needs assessment outlines the practice gap surrounding the management and understanding of oesophageal cancer.

Learning objectives

Learning objectives for the teaching session on oesophageal cancer: Diagnostic Competence: By the end of this session, participants will be able to effectively recognize and evaluate early clinical signs and symptoms of oesophageal cancer, leading to timely and accurate diagnoses. Strategic Treatment Planning: Participants will be skilled in formulating and executing comprehensive, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to the specific subtype and stage of oesophageal cancer. Utilization of Diagnostic Tools: Attendees will demonstrate proficiency in selecting and interpreting the most appropriate diagnostic modalities, from endoscopy to imaging, for suspected oesophageal cancer cases. Patient Management and Communication: By the end of the session, participants will be adept in counseling patients with oesophageal cancer about their diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options, ensuring informed decision-making.
