Session Title: General Surgery - Upper GI Surgery

We are proud to announce the third event of our surgical teaching series by Mr Moore, looking at the basics of general surgery. The general surgery teaching session will be divided into a two-part event, with this first part focussing on the common surgical causes of upper gastrointestinal pathologies and their subsequent management relevant to summative examinations.

This online session is expected to last 1 hour in duration. There will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end. Please complete post session questionnaire to access your certificates! We look forward to welcoming everyone! :)

Summary

Dive into the basics of General Surgery with our two-part teaching series led by Mr. Aiden Moore, who has extensive teaching experience after having partaken in several teaching events for medical students and foundation doctors.

This first session will explore common surgical causes of upper gastrointestinal pathologies and their management, gearing towards summative examinations. Lasting one hour, the virtual event will conclude with a valuable Q&A session, and certificates will be provided upon the completion of post-session questionnaires. Learning objectives

  1. Describe the organisation of the gastrointestinal tract.
  2. Understand biliary anatomy and its pathology in relation to gallstones.
  3. Know the underlying causes and management of pancreatitis.
  4. Develop a systematic approach towards assessment of epigastric pain, including differential diagnoses, basic investigations and management options.
