Join us for GASOC's June journal club on Wednesday 26th June at 7:00pm BST. This is a hybrid event, online via medall and in person in Leeds. The event will be held in Leeds Clinical Sciences Building, St James Hospital. Once at the building please follow signage.
This months journal club is obstetrics and gynaecology themed and we will be hearing from Dr Joanna Gibson a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in West Yorkshire. We will be discussing the disease burden of benign gynaecological conditions globally.
Joanna has a passion for improving women’s access to healthcare, and elevating women’s healthcare on the global health agenda. Recently she co-authored a paper analysing data collected through the Global Burden of Disease database, to highlight the morbidity of “benign” gynaecological condition across the globe. She gained global health experience as an RCOG Marcus Filshie Fellow working in rural Uganda, and as Clinical Advisor to the Resilience in Obstetric Skills programme at the RCOG Centre for Global Women’s Health. She has also spent a year as a Leadership Fellow, developing expertise in quality improvement, working on a national maternity programme, and working with the Born in Bradford project. Currently she is studying to complete a Masters in Public Health.
The paper titled 'The global burden of disease due to benign gynecological conditions: A call to action' is available to pre-read in the side deck section of this event or via this link:
