We are proud to announce the third talk of our “ESSS Guide to the Surgical Portfolio” series taught by doctors with first-hand experience on the process!

The aim of this series is to equip students with knowledge about key points of the surgical application and how to complete each aspect of the portfolio.

This session, led by Mr Joe Esland, will delve more into the teaching aspect of the surgical portfolio, and how you as a student can maximise points.

Mr. Esland is a SpR in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. He has a specialist interest in orthopaedic oncology, within which he is currently completing his doctorate.

After completing an Academic Foundation Programme in medical education, he has gone on to publish his educational research, as well as two medical textbooks; the most recent of which addresses career guidance and planning for aspiring surgeons. Alongside his doctoral studies, he works as a Medical Education Fellow, where he is leading an educational study and is completing a PGCert in Clinical Education.
