We are proud to announce the fifth talk of our “ESSS Guide to the Surgical Portfolio” series taught by doctors with first-hand experience on the process!
The aim of this series is to equip students with knowledge about key points of the surgical application and how to complete each aspect of the portfolio.
This session, led by Mr Josh Burke, will explore the leadership aspect of the surgical portfolio.
Josh is an ST3 in General Surgery In Yorkshire and is currently completing his PhD investigating gastrointestinal anastomotic leak through an RCSEng and Bowel Cancer UK funded clinical research fellowship at The University of Leeds.
After graduating from The University of Manchester in 2015 he completed his Academic Foundation Training in East London through an honorary research fellowship at The National Institute of Bowel Research. Prior to coming out-of-programme, he completed an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Leeds and a post-graduate certificate in Medical Education and Health Research. His interests include gastrointestinal anastomotic leak, abdominal wall reconstruction and trauma surgery. He is the current postgraduate lead for the NIHR MedTech Foundation, Associate Trainee Editor for the RCSEng Bulletin, Vice-Chair of the White Rose Surgical Research Collaborative and former steering committee member of STARSurg UK.
