Another engaging webinar in this monthly series developed in collaboration with ASGBI and The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh SSB and Trainee Committee. The purpose is to support those preparing for the General Surgery FRCS exam. The focus of this webinar is to provide an overview of the fundamental principles of managing Emergency General Surgery Conditions in the Pregnant Patient.

This is also the first of the the Moynihan Academy Women Wednesday Webinar Series to celebrate International Women’s Day in March, the others will be available to watch on MedAll.

Aims

Enable trainees to assess and manage emergency general surgical conditions in pregnant patients.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants should be able to:

  • Understand and recognise key principes in assessment of the pregnant patient with an acute abdomen
  • Explore and discuss the guidance, practicialities and evidence base for the management of common conditions in pregnancy
  • Consider the risks and benefits of surgery and when to operate in pregnancy
  • Apply knowledge to clinical cases
  • Describe the multidisciplinary approach to managing EGS conditions in Pregnancy.
