Description

EUTOS, THOR, and UOGTOSM proudly present our Deep Dive Subspecialty series, a teaching series where experts in the field guide us through common procedures in the various orthopaedic subspecialties.

For our first session, we're delighted to have Miss Eleanor Davidson who will be talking about the concepts of trauma and fracture management.

Miss Davidson is a consultant orthopaedic trauma surgeon at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Having graduated from Bristol University Medical School and completed her orthopaedic training in Edinburgh, she aims to be a technically skilled orthopaedic trauma surgeon with a high standard of patient care. She has interests in upper limb and trauma surgery including rib fracture fixation and patella suture fixation. With a keen interest in medical education, she was also nominated for post-graduate teacher of the year in Scotland and awarded the SE Scotland Orthopaedic Trainer of the Year award in her first two years as a consultant.

Learning objectives

  1. By the end of the session, participants will be able to understand and explain the key concepts and principles involved in trauma and fracture management.

  2. Participants will learn and be able to identify different types of fractures and the appropriate surgical interventions for each.

  3. Participants will gain insights into effective patient care in the context of orthopaedic trauma surgery, learning from Miss Davidson's experience and personal approach.

  4. Participants will be introduced to specific procedures such as rib fracture fixation and patella suture fixation, with the aim to understand the technical aspects and indications of these surgeries.

  5. The session seeks to inspire participants towards excellence in medical education, by presenting the teaching framework and philosophy of Miss Davidson, who has then herself been recognized for her contributions to orthopaedic training.
