Summary
The Combined Services Plastic Surgery Society annual meeting will be taking place on Thursday 28th November 2024. The venue for the conference this year is HMS Sultan, Gosport and the Cadre dinner night will take place at the Institute of Naval Medicine, Gosport.
The theme and focus for this year is ‘Burns and Disaster Relief Surgery’, particularly focusing on the management of major incidents, burns surgery and the role of the plastic surgeon in medical disasters, whether military or civilian.
For serving members of the Cadre, there will be military academic and cadre update day will take place on Friday 29th November 2024 at HMS Sultan and will be for military personnel only.
Learning objectives
- Understand and appraise the different approaches to managing major incidents, especially focusing on burns and disaster relief.
- Gain insight into the historical context and advancements in burns surgery, and understand the role it has played in shaping current medical practices.
- Evaluate the deployment and contribution of plastic surgeons in disaster relief operations, in both military and civilian contexts, and recognize the unique challenges and considerations it presents.
- Examine the differences and similarities in managing burns in varied settings such as Western Australia and Ukraine: understand the novel strategies and methods employed in different locales, and their potential applicability more generally.
- Discuss and evaluate the latest updates and lessons learned from burn management in the military, and apply this knowledge to your own practice or workplace.
