Summary

This tutorial will be an interactive session on learning how to systematically and effectively interpret chest X-rays, with specific emphasis on recognising chest anatomy and identifying common pathologies.

Cases will be aimed towards medical students in their clinical years and will be on topics that could come up on the wards and on exams!

Learning objectives

  1. Describe the main anatomy seen on a typical chest X-ray.
  2. Explain the normal and abnormal findings on a chest X-ray with regard to the thoracic structures and components.
  3. Identify the difference between 'consolidation' and 'collapse'.
  4. Apply interactive problem-solving techniques to chest X-ray scenarios.
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the common pathologies and clinical presentations of chest X-rays.
