Cardiorespiratory fitness is lower in people with congenital heart disease due to a variety of factors… but is this important? Why should we care about fitness and should we be measuring fitness routinely? This talk will present a recent meta-analysis published in the European Journal of Preventative Cardiology, discuss the findings/limitations of the evidence base, and discuss future directions.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER
Curtis Wadey is a PhD student at the Children’s Health and Exercise Research Centre (CHERC) at the University of Exeter, which is the only dedicated research centre for paediatric exercise physiology in the UK. Curtis’s specific research interests are within cardiorespiratory fitness and cardiopulmonary exercise testing in young people with congenital heart disease. Outside of research Curtis is a postgraduate teaching associate at the University and teaches across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
