Summary

Heart failure (HF) represents a significant public health concern, prevalent in a substantial portion of the population, particularly the elderly. Despite advances in management and therapy, HF remains a leading cause of hospitalization and mortality, underscoring the urgency for updated, comprehensive, and practical education for healthcare professionals, particularly qualified doctors who are at the forefront of HF patient management.

Learning objectives

Effectively Diagnose and Stratify Risk: Accurately diagnose heart failure using clinical evaluation and appropriate diagnostic testing, and stratify patients based on the severity and type of heart failure to guide treatment strategies. Optimize Pharmacological Management: Confidently optimize pharmacological management plans by selecting appropriate medications, dosages, and combinations tailored to the individual patient’s type and severity of heart failure. Implement Lifestyle and Self-Care Education: Effectively educate patients and caregivers about relevant lifestyle modifications, symptom monitoring, and management strategies to enhance self-care and improve outcomes. Coordinate Multidisciplinary Care: Collaborate and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care including, when necessary, referral to heart failure specialists or consideration for advanced therapies. Evaluate and Adjust Treatment Plans: Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of management plans, being agile in adjusting treatment strategies based on patient response, emerging evidence, and evolving clinical guidelines.
