Summary

Heart failure (HF) is a leading cause of hospitalization and morbidity worldwide. With the diversification of its subtypes, specifically systolic and diastolic heart failure, tailored clinical approaches are essential. Both are distinct entities in terms of etiology, pathophysiology, and management. An accurate understanding of these differences is paramount for clinicians to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Learning objectives

Learning objectives for the teaching session on heart failure: Differentiate Competence: By the end of this session, participants will be able to accurately differentiate between the clinical presentations of systolic and diastolic heart failure based on patient symptoms and diagnostic findings. Application in Clinical Practice: Participants will be able to apply the most recent guidelines to devise a patient-specific management plan for both systolic and diastolic heart failure, incorporating lifestyle interventions, medications, and devices. Diagnostic Proficiency: Attendees will demonstrate competence in selecting and interpreting the appropriate diagnostic tests to confirm and categorize heart failure subtypes in diverse patient scenarios. Communication Skills: By session completion, participants will be adept at effectively counseling patients with heart failure about their specific subtype, prognostic implications, and the importance of tailored therapeutic strategies. Continuous Quality Improvement: Learners will be equipped to continuously assess and enhance their clinical approach to heart failure by staying updated with emerging evidence, soliciting peer feedback, and reflecting on their patient outcomes.
