Summary

Join us for Session 2 of the Bridging The Gap: From Final Year to FY1 series. University of Dundee final-year medical students transitioning to the Foundation Year Programme will be equipped with crucial skills like interpreting X-Rays and ABGs, fluid assessment, escalation of unwell patients, and practise through mock final year OSCEs. This session will specifically tackle the vital topics of "Falls Review + Fluid Review". The course runs over three months with biweekly sessions for comprehensive knowledge assimilation.

Learning objectives

  1. By the end of the teaching session, the learners should be able to understand the typical jobs, responsibilities and tasks of a Foundation Year 1 (FY1) doctor in a hospital setting, including referrals and ward rounds.
  2. Learners should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the hospital electronic prescribing and medicines administration system (HEPMA) and its relevance to their role as a FY1 doctor.
  3. The session aims to enable learners to confidently interpret and respond to estimated discharge dates (EDDs) as part of their ongoing transition to FY1.
  4. Learners should have gained an insight into the escalation process for unwell patients, and their role within this as a FY1 doctor.
  5. By the end of the session, the learners should be able to apply their knowledge and understanding in a simulated scenario, demonstrating their practical skills and readiness for the role of a FY1 doctor.
