The Medical University of Sofia’s Afro-Caribbean Society (ACS) and the UK-based non-profit organization HIT Consults are proud to present “Bridging the Gap: Cancer and the Black Community,” a free, insightful webinar that addresses the critical challenges of cancer care within the Black community.
Join us on Monday, 3rd February, at 6:30 PM BST / 8:30 PM EET, as leading medical experts from various specialties come together to share their expertise, discuss barriers to care, and explore strategies for improving cancer outcomes in Black populations. This event highlights the collaborative efforts of HIT Consults, a charity dedicated to supporting cancer care in Africa through education, screenings, and financial assistance, alongside the Medical University of Sofia's Afro-Caribbean Society, a collective committed to uplifting Black communities through educational programs, social events, and partnerships.
The esteemed panel includes members of the Afro-Caribbean society and doctors from HIT Consults including:
• Dr. Adetomiola Essem – Consultant Haematologist and CEO of HIT Consults, a cancer advocacy and support services leader.
• Dr. Walter Mmeka – Consultant Medical Oncologist, specializing in multidisciplinary approaches to oncology care.
• Dr. Julius Essem – Consultant Psychiatrist focusing on mental health’s role in cancer management and patient support.
• Dr. Olusola O Faluyi – Consultant Oncologist with extensive experience in oncology treatment and research.
Together, we'll tackle critical topics such as early detection, the role of education in prevention, mental health’s impact on care outcomes, and the importance of culturally sensitive approaches in addressing health inequities.
We invite healthcare professionals, patients, students, caregivers, and advocates to join this interactive discussion. Together, we can bridge the gap in cancer care and rewrite the narrative for Black communities.
