Description

This one day In-person course in Nottingham aims to deliver an overview of research methodology relevant to Trauma and Orthopaedic trainees.

The course will address the research competencies for CCT requirements:

  • Understanding and applying basic research principles
  • Understanding the basic principles of research governance and how to apply relevant ethical guidelines to research activities
  • Demonstration of evidence based practice

With experts from the Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit, we will discuss key concepts in randomised controlled trials, including defining the research question, statistical considerations, sources of bias, and also working with CTUs to design and deliver trials.

Members of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Associate Principal Investigator (API) scheme will also be present to discuss the API scheme and how this pathway can help trainees to get involved in trials, as well as the support available.

Finally we will look at some of the trials currently seeking APIs and how to get involved in them at your current place of work.
